Expat dating

Expat Dating for Singles Living Abroad

You didn't move a thousand miles to swipe through the same five photos. ExpatFlirt is for people whose life happens in a country that isn't the one on their passport — and for the locals who want to meet them.

Free to join. Free ID verification on every account, whatever you pay.

Real profiles

People already using the platform

Sixteen people, sixteen countries. Create a free account to browse by country, city and what you're each looking for.

A sample of profiles registered on the platform that operates this service. Availability and activity vary by area and by the preferences you set.

Why here

Dating changes when you move country

The network you spent years building is in another timezone, and the usual apps have no idea what your week looks like.

Moving abroad rearranges how you meet people. Friends-of-friends stop being a reliable route. Weekends look different. And “where are you from” stops being small talk and becomes the actual conversation — the one that decides whether someone understands your life or is just being polite about it.

ExpatFlirt is built around a single thing the platform already knows about its members: the country on their profile isn't the country on their passport. Everything follows from that. The people you see are people for whom living abroad is the normal condition, not an anecdote.

Who it's for

Two ways to meet, both of them the point

Neither is the consolation prize.

Other people living abroad

People who already know what the residency appointment costs you in a morning, why you half-speak three languages badly, and what the flight home at Christmas does to your December.

You skip the explaining and start somewhere further along.

Locals who want to meet internationals

People who grew up where you now live and are curious about someone who didn't. They know which neighbourhood is actually worth your Saturday and which one is for tourists.

You get the city as it really works, not as the guidebook has it.

People who aren't in a hurry

Most members are somewhere past the stage of treating dating as a numbers game. Conversation before coffee, coffee before anything else, at whatever pace suits both of you.

Nothing on the platform pressures you to move faster than you want to.

Discovery

How people actually find each other here

Daily suggestions from the matching algorithm, plus the filters to go looking yourself.

Every member gets daily match suggestions. The algorithm weighs age range and gender preference, how close you are to each other, how recently and actively someone uses the platform, the kind of relationship you're each looking for, lifestyle habits like drinking and smoking, specific interests and hobbies, and religious or moral compatibility.

Interests are where this gets useful for an international audience. Language exchange, expat meetups, intercultural friendships, working abroad, remote work, studying abroad, international cuisine, local customs and traditions, local festivals, travelling with pets — these are real fields on a profile, not tags invented for a landing page. They are usually a better opening line than anything about the weather.

If you would rather go looking than be shown, VIP membership unlocks advanced search filters: city, distance, experience level, and what someone is open to.

Destinations

Where we're starting

Ten countries first, chosen for how much of the dating conversation already happens in English there. Full country and city guides are being written for each.

  • United Arab Emirates

Almost everyone arrived from somewhere else, so “where are you from” is the opening line rather than an awkward one.

    DubaiAbu Dhabi

    Expat dating in the UAE

  • Spain

Late dinners and a social calendar that assumes you're free at ten at night. The adjustment catches out more newcomers than the language does.

    BarcelonaMadridValenciaMalaga

    Expat dating in Spain

  • Portugal

A steady draw for people who moved for the weather and stayed for the pace. Lisbon and Porto attract noticeably different crowds.

    LisbonPorto
  • Netherlands

English gets you further here than almost anywhere in Europe, which is exactly why so many internationals arrive for a year and stay for six.

    AmsterdamRotterdamThe HagueEindhoven

    Expat dating in the Netherlands

  • Germany

Four cities with four different international crowds. The Berlin scene looks nothing like the Frankfurt one, and nobody should treat them as interchangeable.

    BerlinMunichFrankfurtHamburg

    Expat dating in Germany

  • United Kingdom

Home for some, a posting for others, and a first move abroad for a lot of people who have never had to rebuild a social life before.

    LondonManchesterEdinburgh

    Expat dating in the UK

  • France

Where learning the language isn't a side project so much as the whole point — and where saying so openly tends to go down well.

    ParisNiceLyon

    Expat dating in France

  • Thailand

Long-stay and remote-work territory, with a wide gap between the three cities: Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket are three different propositions.

    BangkokChiang MaiPhuket
  • Mexico

The timezone that made working remotely from abroad genuinely practical for anyone on a North American schedule.

    Mexico CityPlaya del CarmenCancun
  • Singapore

Compact and international by design, and small enough that the same faces come round again — which changes how carefully people behave.

    Citywide

Guides for each country and city are being published progressively, and the full directory of expat dating by country lists every destination as it goes live. This list is what's being built first, not everywhere you can meet someone — the platform itself isn't limited to these countries.

How it works

Four steps, and the first one is free

Create a free profile

Photos, what you're looking for, and the interests that actually say something about your week. A Classic account costs nothing.

Get verified

Free ID verification on any tier, or manual admin validation if you'd rather not submit documents. Either way you get a badge.

See your daily matches

Suggestions arrive each day. Browse freely, and use the chat rooms and posts if you'd rather warm up in a group first.

Start talking

Free accounts send a set number of messages a day and can always reply to VIP members. VIP removes the limit entirely.

The longer version What each tier costs

Trust and safety

Safety that works before something goes wrong

Content is screened as it's uploaded rather than after someone complains.

You stay unidentifiable until you choose otherwise

Your real name and email are never shown publicly, and your location shows as your nearest town or city — never an address, never live.

Protects against being traced back to your home or your social accounts.

Verification that doesn't cost you privacy

Optional government ID check, live video verification with a moderator, or manual admin validation. AI age assurance runs underneath all of it.

Confirms people are genuine without putting your documents into circulation.

Scam patterns flagged as they happen

Behaviour monitoring picks up unusual activity, and the platform detects attempts to pull a conversation onto WhatsApp or similar apps early.

Moving off-platform fast is the oldest tactic there is, and you get warned.

One click to end it

Block anyone instantly and they can no longer contact you or see you. Reporting takes a click from inside the profile or the conversation.

Support is staffed around the clock, by people.

Advice

What actually helps when you're dating abroad

Say where you are in the move, not just where you're from

“Three months in, still fighting the bank” tells someone far more than a nationality does. It also filters hard: the people who find that relatable are the people worth talking to.

Be specific about language

If you're learning the local language, say so and say roughly where you are with it. It turns a potential awkwardness into a shared activity, and language exchange is one of the most common interests on the platform for a reason.

Pick a first meeting that suits a newcomer

Somewhere public, easy to leave, and easy to find without a taxi. If you don't know the city well yet, let the person who does suggest the place — then check it yourself before you agree.

Treat a rush off the platform as information

Someone who wants your phone number in the first four messages is telling you something. The platform will usually warn you; take the warning seriously rather than personally.

All of this is covered at length in our guide to dating abroad as an expat, from the first weeks after a move to planning a date in a city you barely know. If you have just arrived, start with what actually changes when you are dating as an expat, and with how expectations differ from place to place in our guide to dating culture around the world.

Questions

Before you sign up

Is ExpatFlirt free to use?

Yes. A Classic account is free and lets you build a full profile, browse other members, receive daily match suggestions from the matching algorithm, post photos and status updates, take part in polls and comment on articles, and send a limited number of messages each day. You can also read and reply to messages from VIP and VIP+ members, and get ID verified at no cost. Paid VIP and VIP+ tiers add unrestricted messaging, advanced search filters and extra visibility.

Do I have to be an expat to join?

No. ExpatFlirt is built around people whose nationality doesn't match the country they live in, but locals who want to meet internationals are equally welcome. Both directions are the point: some members want someone who understands the visa admin and the flights home, others want someone who knows the city properly.

How do you know the profiles are real?

Free ID verification is open to every member regardless of tier and adds a visible badge to the profile. Members who prefer not to submit documents can request manual admin validation instead, where a moderator reviews and approves the profile. On top of that, images, video and text are screened on upload by a combination of AI and human review, and behaviour monitoring flags unusual activity patterns.

How does ExpatFlirt decide who to show me?

The matching algorithm generates daily suggestions using age range, gender identity and preference, how close you are to each other, how recently and actively someone uses the platform, the kind of relationship you're each looking for, lifestyle habits such as drinking and smoking, specific interests and hobbies, and religious or moral compatibility. VIP members can also filter manually by city, distance and what someone is open to.

Which devices can I use it on?

The full experience runs in any desktop browser and as an installable Progressive Web App on mobile, both available in every market. Native iPhone, iPad and Android apps are available in selected markets.

Who runs ExpatFlirt?

Two separate companies. GO PERFORMANCE LABS SL owns the ExpatFlirt brand, the domain and everything published on the public pages of this site. Hubpeople Limited operates the dating platform itself, which means member accounts, profiles, messaging, moderation, subscriptions and payments. Each is responsible for its own part.
